VWJ is helping you get a head start on a healthy new year with a new series entitled Learning from the Experts. We’ve rounded up a great group of holistic health practitioners to share health and wellness tips with our readers. Coming soon are interviews with a home-birth midwife, acupuncturists, and naturopathic doctors.
We here at VWJ have benefited greatly from years of alternative therapies– naturopathic, acupuncture, and more, and we want to share this experience with you! Though sometimes this is seen as a more expensive treatment option, the results are often so good (and you often experience so many other benefits) that the cost is totally worth it! Many health care providers will cover chiropractic care and other alternative therapies, so check with your insurance company to determine whether or not it includes alternative therapies. Many companies now recognize that holistic health care is an important complement to allopathic medicine for true wellness.
Our first expert interview is with Dr. Micaire, a chiropractor at Global Health Chiropractic in Honolulu. Today Dr. Micaire generously answers all our questions about chiropractic care (like, will it HURT?!) and shares her knowledge about the health benefits of chiropractic care.
1. What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is the science, art and philosophy of locating and correcting vertebral subluxations through specific, gentle chiropractic adjustments, allowing the body to function at its optimum potential. An adjustment involves a specific, non-invasive “thrust” delivered by hand which is called a “Manual Adjustment.” It’s fast and non-painful. The purpose of the adjustment is to remove nerve interference in your body.
At our clinic, Global Health Chiropractic, we offer chiropractic care alongside diagnostic SEMG and thermal computer scans, therapeutic massage, an extensive lending library, various exercise classes, monthly health talks, stress management and goal-oriented workshops, and a community to encourage and support you on your journey towards well-being.
2. Will my adjustment hurt?
Manual adjustments are safe, gentle and they should feel good too! These adjustments can be done on anyone from one-month to ninety years old.
3. How long will it take to get adjusted?
Even the busiest practice members need to commit to making chiropractic care a priority in their lives. Your adjustment will take about five minutes, but if you interested in scheduling extra time to talk about a particular issue, just ask and I will schedule appropriately.
4. Can adjustment help with illness?
Though chiropractic does not label and treat diseases, chiropractic adjustments can address the underlying imbalances that CAUSE disease and discomfort in both the body and mind.
5. Will I feel better after getting adjusted?
Numerous studies document that those under regular chiropractic care experience an increase in immune system function as well as increased energy and stamina, increased metabolism, and a greater ability to cope with stress. The importance is on quality of life rather than disease outcomes.
6. How many times do I have to come for an office visit?
Each practice member is unique on every level; therefore, it is virtually impossible to know exactly how many adjustments you will need to hit each of your health goals. However, one truth I do know is that your goals and expectations have 100% to do with the number of times you visit this office.
7. What if I feel fine; do I need to keep coming back?
It is always the practice member’s decision whether or not to return. However, it has been my experience that those who stop care when they are “feeling fine” return with the same problem, but often it becomes worse. Those that commit to regular care, however, find their problem rarely returns!
8. Will chiropractic care be expensive?
Considering the benefits, the experience at GHC, the inclusiveness of our service, our fees are very reasonably priced and offer immense value. Over 75% of our practice members choose to enroll in our Family Year Care Plan, making care very affordable for the whole family.
Thanks so much, Dr. Micaire, for answering all our questions! Let us know in the comments if you have any more questions for this expert!
