I have to admit, I just cannot get totally on board with the green smoothie thing. I’ve tried to do green smoothies in the afternoon, in the morning and at my favorite juice bars. And while I love my greens everyday in kale salads, stir-fries and even on sandwiches, I am just not sure that I am a green smoothie girl. But, of course I want something light to start my day and I still need some way to get some berries into my diet. So I experimented in the kitchen a few days ago and found my new favorite ‘smoothie’ recipe for Fruit Milk.

I took my favorite organic berries and blended it with my homemade almond milk, along with a little bit of hemp protein and some chia seeds for a light, drinkable treat. It’s thinner than a smoothie but just as refreshing. It’s not quite enough for a breakfast, but it’s a nice light way to jumpstart digestion before a heavier meal.
My favorite is strawberry, but a combination of blueberries and blackberries was a pretty good option too. And then I got a craving and I added in some chocolate, and yep, that was pretty damn delicious too.
Here’s the loose recipe, but adjust the proportions to suit your cravings!
1/2 cup frozen strawberries, blueberries, blackberries or combination
1/2 cup- 3/4 cup homemade almond milk
1 Tablespoon hemp protein powder or other vegan protein powder
2 Tablespoons chia seeds
- Add berries, milk and protein powder to a blender. Blend until smooth.
- Stir in chia seeds, then stir every few minutes to let chia gel. Drink and enjoy the fruity awesomeness!
