The annual Green Festival is coming to town this weekend, and it is a very cool event featuring the best of sustainable living brands from around the globe, along with freebies, food, and inspiring talks from sustainability leaders from around the world.
I have attended two Green Festivals in years past, and was astounded with the abundance of green lifestyle products on offer. The San Francisco Festival is the largest fest of the festivals, bringing in about 30,000 people each year. This year the event has moved to Cow Palace, to give festival goers an even bigger experience.
The Green Festival offers attendees a chance to meet the brands beyond the grocery store, and often get to know the owners and founders of the companies themselves. Whether you’re looking for locally-made tempeh, a new essential oil, your favorite new snack food, or some righteous vegan chocolate, you are sure to find both new products and old favorites.
Most of the vendors at the Green Festival offer tons of delicious samples, and since everything is vegetarian and vegan, it’s easy to fill yourself up on awesome snacks and treats all day long. But no doubt, one of my favorite features of the Green Festival is the food court, featuring a wide array of food options from the community.
Last year I even had a chance to experience some serious healing at the Green Festival, as I came down with a terrible flu + cold combo that knocked me out for two days when I was supposed to be working the event with my company Life Foods. I was able to get some awesome tinctures from Urban Moonshine, get some free acupuncture from the clinic on site, and get some nourishing herbal teas from the apothecary-like tea company at the food court.
Some of the brands lined up for the SF Festival include Earth Balance, Nutiva, Manitoba Harvest, Veri Organic Soda, Conosur Wines, Wonderseed Hemp body care products, and hundreds (yes, hundreds more!)
And if you a lover of Rainbow Grocery like I am, you’ll be happy to know that you can bring your Rainbow Grocery Cooperative receipt (of $25 or more) & get into the San Francisco Green Festival, for $1 to celebrate Rainbow Grocery’s 40th Celebration Oct. 26 – Nov. 1
Stay updated on all the events this weekend in San Francisco on the Green Festivals Facebook page. Better yet, drop by yourself. Come see us at the Important Media booth, where we’ll be talking about blogging, cooking, and energy efficiency.
